World Aids Day – Luxembourg Red Cross

From 22 to 29 of November the HIV Berodung fom the Luxembourg Red Cross and the Luxembourg Ministry of health organized the participation of Luxembourgish hospitals and private labs in the European testing week. The LRC offered rapid, anonymous and free testing every day during this period.

A big sensitization and testing event was organized on November 23 in a big shopping mall. That day was also the launch of the availability of selftests in supermarkets.

From November22 to December 1 the HIV Berodung of the LRC started an awareness raising and fund raising campagne previous to World Aids Day. In collaboration with a renowned bakery, the Love baguette was sold in sign of solidarity to people living with HIV. 1€ for each baguette sold is donated to the LRC’s HIV department.

On November 29th, the HIV Berodung of the LRC, together with the Luxembourg Institute of Health, the National Service for Infectious Disease and the Ministry of Health organized a whole day sensitization event for 140 highschool students. Topics discussed were transmission ways and prevention tools, other STIs, research and living with HIV. For the last topic, we had the honor to have the visit and participation of Jennifer Jako, artist, filmmaker and HIV activist from the US. Jennifer is living with HIV for 28 years and shared here experience as HIV positive person and mother.

The award winning ceremony for the yearly “Peventive art” competition took place on November 29th after the sensitization event. It was also the launch of the exposition of the “Art on Poster”, posters with prevention messages realised by the highschool students.

On December 1st a Solidarity Brunch was organised in presence of the Health Minister and the Minister for Development Cooperation of Luxembourg. 10% of the brunches were offered to people living with HIV and the benefits will be used to organised a recreative activfity for beneficiairies. Secretary General of Luxembourg Red Cross Michel Simonis, Director in charge of HIV Berodung Sandy Kubaj, HIV activist Jennifer Jako, UNAIDS 90-90-90 Ambassador Mark Angel, Minister for Luxembourg Development Cooperation Paulette Lenert took part at the event.
